The Dominican Church is a monument of architecture of national value, located in the central part of the city in the area of world heritage of UNESCO, and catches an eye of a person willing to travel to Lviv.

The monastery of the Dominicans was founded in the XIII century at this place at the request of the wife of Ukrainian Prince Lev Danilovich, the Hungarian Princess Constance, who did not accept the religion of her husband and remained a Catholic. She really missed her faith and at her request, a Church was built in the Gothic style. From the XV to the middle of XVIII century there was a Church built in the Gothic style, which is of one TOP Lviv attractions nowadays.

The Gothic Church had to be dismantled in 1748 because of its emergency condition threatened the residents. In its place, a new church was built in 1749  -  Cathedral of God's Body. Most talented architect of that time - Jan de Witte worked over the construction project. According to ancient tradition there were left the most valuable from the dismantled buildings. Therefore, the Dominican Cathedral still preserves the memory of an old Gothic Church -  several tombs of the XVIII century, which everyone can see.

The interior of the Church is really magnificent. The interior is done in cream and golden tones, decorated with sculptures, stucco works, chandeliers. All around is elegant and noble. The Central altar is decorated with figures of four apostles – Peter, Paul, Luke, and John. There are numerous sculptures which have international value.

There was opened a “Museum of the history of religion and atheism” in 1970, which survived until our days. Today it is called “Museum of history of religion”. Now the museum is the only institution in Ukraine, covering the history of world and national religions, the activity of Church organizations.

Today, the Dominican Cathedral is the Greek Catholic Church of the Holy Eucharist, which is a monument of European importance and one of the best examples of the architectural heritage of the city. There are the words on the front: "SOLI DEO HONOR ET GLORIA" — "To the only God be honor and glory" — the powerful order of the Dominicans.

The Dominican Church is a great pride of a baroque art and Lviv sightseeing city tours popular in Ukraine. When planing and arranging your travel to Lviv Ukraine, tick it as one of must see attractions!
