Local currency in Ukraine
Ukrainian Hryvna (UAH) is official currency. Sometimes you can hear the hryvnia, hryvnya or grivna.
Hryvna has been the national currency of Ukraine since September 2, 1996. And in the far past hryvnia has also been a currency of Kievian Rus.
You will find bills of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 Hryvnas. There are coins called 'kopiyka' for 1, 2 ,5 10, 25, and 50 kopiykas. One kopiyka is equal to 1/100 of Hryvnia. There are also 1, 2 and 5 Hryvnia coins in Ukraine which are often used as collectible coins.
Hryvnia can be easily converted to most currencies in any autorised bank or mainly to US dollars, UK pound, RU ruble at exchange points, which look like small kiosks on the streets.
Climate and weather in Ukraine
Climate in Ukraine varies across the country: as warmer as closer to the East-South. Ideal weather and timing for visiting Ukraine is mid-April till the end of June when everything is in bloom and the temperature isn't too high. At the begining of autumn, in September and early October when the weather is mild and the leaves are changing it is good time for traveling across Ukraine as well while summer is hot and dry and too exhausting for travelers. Throughout most of Ukraine be prepared for heat with thunderstorms and brief downpours in July and August, frequent rain in late October and November, and snow December through March.
